Auto Supply Co. at the Fall NHRA Nationals Event

On September 18, Auto Supply Company, Inc. hosted its semi-annual Customer Appreciation day during the NHRA Nationals Series Drag Races at ZMax Speedway in Concord, NC. Over 125 customers were treated to a day of super-charged racing including a hospitality tent with an up-close and personal view of Clay Millican’s Parts Plus/ Great Clips top fuel dragster.

Although Millican was eliminated in the first round of competition, he was gracious enough to visit with the customers at the hospitality suite, sign merchandise, and even raffle off prizes including parts from his dragster. Going off the script, Millican took time to dedicate a medallion he had earned earlier in the weekend for making “The Countdown”, NHRA’s playoffs, to team owner Doug Stringer.

This day also marked the first time the Auto Supply Company logo appeared on Millican’s number 25 car, as well as the chase car, during the 2016 season. Auto Supply Company looks forward to a long and thriving partnership with the Parts Plus/ Great Clips racing team in the years to come.

2016 Carla Key Luper Golf Tournament a Success

DSC_0146Thank you to all the players, sponsors, and volunteers that helped Auto Supply Company raise over $18,000.00 for the American Diabetes Association by participating in the 6th Annual Carla Key Luper Memorial Golf Tournament at Reynolds Park Golf Course in Winston-Salem last weekend.

We had gorgeous weather and fantastic course conditions. The play was competitive but in the end AC Automotive took home the 1st Place plaque by one stroke with a score of -17. Most importantly, everyone had a great time, good food, and helped out a worthy cause.

Next year the event will be held the first Saturday of June. We reached capacity with our number of players so register quickly as we expect to be sold out again in 2017!

ACDelco Celebrates its 100th Birthday

ACDelco 100 Years

ACDelco is celebrating its 100th birthday by reflecting on its heritage and planning its future.

“No business achieves this kind of a milestone by itself, and we are grateful for the support of our parts customers and employees who’ve helped make ACDelco what it is today,” says Robert Sanford, general director, ACDelco. “We’re honored that so many insist on using ACDelco parts, and we’re looking forward to another 100 years of aftermarket leadership.”

Since its birth in Flint, Mich., ACDelco – the GM original equipment aftermarket parts brand – has evolved into a global automotive aftermarket company. It has a catalog of more than 90,000 parts across 37 lines which undergo “rigorous testing and validation cycles to ensure quality, fit, form and function,” says the company.

In addition to premium parts, ACDelco reports it was among the first aftermarket providers to focus on the importance of training technicians on proper installation techniques. Another earlier iteration of ACDelco – United Motors Service – offered its first course in automotive air conditioning repair in the 1970s, at each of its 30 GM Training Centers across the U.S.

ACDelco is using its centennial to help give back to the local communities it serves. During the week of May 11 – in 18 cities across the U.S. – ACDelco will partner with the GM Foundation, local chapters of Safe Kids Worldwide and its PSC program shops to help families in need repair their vehicles.

Tech Tip

During rack installation technician must use a wrench to keep tie inner tie rod stationary while tightening the outer tie rod otherwise the boot will twist and tear allowing contamination and cause failure. If this step is done correctly, care must also be taken when performing an alignment: The boot clamp must be loosened during the alignment to allow for proper adjustments and tie rod rotation and then re-tightened upon completion.

When the Clocks Change, It’s Time to Check Vehicle Mainenance

“Turning back the clocks means fewer hours of daylight, so it’s even more important that your vehicle’s lights and wipers are working properly so you can be seen by others and your visibility is not compromised,” said Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council. “From the driver’s seat you may not notice a light that isn’t working, so inspect all of your car’s lights and replace those that are out. Also, inspect and replace wiper blades so you can see clearly when wet weather hits.”

Lights are normal wear items that require periodic inspection and replacement. The lighting system provides nighttime visibility; signals and alerts other drivers; and supplies light for viewing instruments and the vehicle’s interior. In addition to replacing dimming, rapidly blinking and non-functioning lights, the following tips can help keep you safe:

  • If there is any doubt on whether or not your headlights should be on, turn them on. Lights not only help you see better in early twilight, they also make it easier for other drivers to see you.
  • Keep headlights, tail lights and signal lights clean. External dirt and debris can dim operational lights from being seen by others.
  • Make sure that your headlights are properly aimed. Misaimed headlights blind other drivers and reduce your ability to see the road.
  • Don’t overdrive your headlights; you should be able to stop inside the illuminated area, otherwise you are creating a blind crash area in front of your vehicle.

The wiper system keeps excessive water, snow and dirt from building up on the windshield, maintaining clear visibility. Many factors can accelerate the replacement interval of wipers, including operating conditions (winter conditions are tough on wiper blades), frequency of use, material and type of wipers and sunny weather. In fact, wiper blades can deteriorate faster and need more frequent replacement in desert states.

Auto Supply Sweepstakes Grand Prize Winners Drive Away in New GMC Sierra Trucks

DSC00322WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Auto Supply Company concluded its 2013 ACDelco GMC Sierra sweepstakes with two exciting truck giveaway events, each featuring 10 independent installer finalists. The sweepstakes were conducted twice in 2013, first in the spring for Auto Supply Company’s Eastern market-area customers, and secondly in the fall for Western market customers. The grand prize in both sweepstakes was a brand new GMC Sierra 1500 4X4 truck.

At each event, 10 finalists received an iPad Air. After dinner, envelopes containing truck keys were drawn. Only one key was a match for the truck. The suspense built as one by one, finalists tried their key in the truck’s ignition. After several unsuccessful startup attempts in both events, the matching keys finally cranked the ignition, earning two finalists a brand new truck.

The winners were Steve Ward, of Auto Performance Center in Garner, NC (Eastern market) and Terry Fowler, of Fowler’s Auto Service in Hudson, NC (Western market).

“We want to congratulate Steve and Terry on winning these trucks as part of our 2013 Sweepstakes promotion, said Charlie Key, Jr., President and CEO. The two events were a culmination of a substantially rewarding promotion for our independent installer customers.”

The most recent event was held at a private vintage car collector’s facility that showcased numerous Chevrolet Corvettes from 1954-present. Attendees enjoyed the opportunity to view the classic vehicles, as well as a private collection of memorabilia, showcasing all things Corvette, from crystal collector cars to Corvette furniture to Corvette Barbie cars.

DSC_0114Auto Supply Company’s 3rd annual Carla Key Luper Memorial Golf Tournament was held Saturday, June 8th at Reynolds Park Golf Course in Winston-Salem.  Despite a tropical storm making its way through the area in the days leading up to the tournament, 60 golfers attended. After some early rain, it turned out to be a very nice day. This year, there was more of an emphasis on the tournament being a charity event for the American Diabetes Association, as opposed to simply a customer appreciation event. Through sponsorships, player registrations and mulligans, $9,638 was raised for the American Diabetes Association, far surpassing our goal of $5,000! Congratulations to ASCO’s Bradie Worrell, 2012 Counter Professional of the Year Finalist!

Bradie-WorrellAuto Supply Company is proud to congratulate Bradie Worrell of Roanoke for being a finalist in Counterman magazine’s 2012 Counter Professional of the Year award. Bradie is one of only 5 finalists in the country to receive this honor. He was also recognized in 2007 as a top 5 finalist in this national search for the Counter Professional of the Year.

Bradie was nominated by David Manning, Store Manager of Auto Supply Company in Roanoke. David had this to say about Bradie:

“WOW! Where do I begin? Bradie is the definition of a counter professional. I have never worked with and wouldn’t hesitate to say I never will have the opportunity to work with another person who puts their everything into making sure Auto Supply Company is successful. Our customers are treated with the utmost respect each and every time he talks to them and the time is taken to make sure the parts are looked up right and sent right the first time.”

“Bradie strives every day to make sure he keeps up with the ever-changing landscape and imparts that knowledge upon his fellow co-workers  to not only make himself a better parts pro, but also to make everyone around him better. That’s something I think is a rarity in today’s parts world.”

“Bradie is constantly learning and constantly wanting the information it takes to stay on top. Bradie is ASE-certified and has taken ACDelco and Motorcraft training courses. He has held the roles of manager, account manager, and parts professional in the parts business, meaning he knows what it takes to make all these facets of our business gel and has made us a better company for it.”

Auto Supply Company proudly congratulates Bradie for this achievement and we thank him for his hard work!

Auto Supply would like to thank our sponsors and participants for their support of our 18th annual charity golf tournament held June 14th at Reynolds Park Golf Course in Winston-Salem. Our charity this year was the American Diabetes Association. We raised $660 from tournament mulligan sales and collected an additional $414 from Auto Supply employees. Auto Supply then matched this amount for a total contribution of $2,148 to the ADA. Thanks to all who attended and made this a special event!
